Paper Marbling Workshop with Frank Trueba

A one-day introduction to the art of marbling paper. Using modern day paints and materials, participants will learn the basics of this centuries-old art form. Limited to five (5) participants. Or as Wikipedia describes it:

….a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to smooth marble or other stone. The patterns are the result of color floated on either plain water or a viscous solution known as size, and then carefully transferred to an absorbent surface, such as paper or fabric. Through several centuries, people have applied marbled materials to a variety of surfaces. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monotype.

Not to mention, it’s also a lot of fun.
Using modern day paints and materials participants will learn the basics of this centuries-old art form. At the end of the workshop, participants will leave with an understanding of the marbling process and how they may be able to continue marbling at home, as well as with a number of marbled papers to use for projects or display.

$150 (includes all materials including paper and inks).

All tools and other equipment will also be provided.

Printmaker and instructor, Jane Gregorius partnered with Janis O’Driscoll, printmaker and Santa Cruz public librarian to create this show at the invitation of Mary Anne Carson, Senior Vice President and Director of the Arts Collaborative at Santa Cruz County Bank. Jane explains, “The works on display in this exhibition represent the unique versatility of this medium. Artists have been challenged by the difficulties of making prints for centuries, yet have loved the surprising, sometimes accidental results. There are so many ways to make a print, and Janis and I wanted to include as many as possible. Fortunately, there are 18 of us so we’re able to show almost every aspect of the printmaking world.

PATT Invitation

PATT at OGS

September 18 – Nov. 12

ARTIST RECEPTION
SEPT. 18th, 5:30-7:30pm
1230 Fremont Blvd.
Seaside, CA 93955

PATT is honored to be exhibiting at Open Grounds Studio. This is an exhibition of prints that embody a deep and vast level of expertise and diversity from the the PATT group.

Our budding relationship with OGS began almost ten years ago, when Denese Sanders (OGS Founder) was invited to consult with the PATT leadership group about their plans and organizational structure for a printmaking cooperative. Three years ago, that very same group of PATT officers, and new PATT members were instrumental in the development, buildout and founding of Open Ground Studios.

A full circle of collegial commitment to the advancement of the arts and printmaking on the Central Coast! This exhibition will contain artwork from 16 printmakers, representing contemporary and traditional printmaking methods from etching and woodcut, to screen print, photopolymer intaglio and monotype.
